National Emergency Nurses Association Takes Advocacy
Beyond the Bedside with Information Walk at Parliament
Ottawa, June 6, 2024
The National Emergency Nurses Association will put a spotlight on the pressing issues in emergency nursing during its first-ever information walk” advocacy event, set to take place on Thursday at the Parliament grounds.
With the theme of “Advocacy Beyond the Bedside,” the event marks the first time Canada’s emergency nurses will publicly advocate at a national level for increased awareness and action on emergency department overcrowding, staff shortages, and violence within emergency departments.
“NENA is dedicated to promoting the highest standards of emergency nursing practice, and that requires advocating for the well-being of patients and emergency nurses,” NENA President Dawn Peta said. “NENA’s mission underscores the association’s urgent call for proactive measures to address systemic challenges facing emergency nurses across the country.”
The Information Walk serves as a platform for emergency nurses to raise awareness among policymakers and stakeholders about the critical issues affecting patient care and health care delivery in emergency departments nationwide. By gathering at the Parliament grounds, NENA members will amplify their voices and call for meaningful engagement and action to address the root causes of emergency department challenges.
